JAMES TOWN COUNTY – The James City County Planning Commission has approved a special use permit application, which will allow Busch Gardens Williamsburg (BGW) to erect a new building on its property.

On Tuesday, September 14, the Planning Commission approved the application for a special use permit submitted by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, LLC, the parent company of BGW, to construct a new building on the park property.

The new building is expected to be approximately 32,500 square feet and serve as a storage and special events facility. In the approved minutes of the Planning Commission meeting on September 14, he said the building would be located at the rear of the property on the land currently used for the park nursery. The location is just south of the park’s former roller coaster location, Drachen Fire.

Terry Costello, deputy zoning administrator, said the area is surrounded by mature trees and a large wooden fence. Therefore, this new building would not be visible from the Busch Service Road.

According to the Planning Commission minutes, 43% of the building will be designated for special events while the rest will be used for storage.
